The Birth of Baby Maeve
Positive augmented birth.
First-time mum, Naomi, had planned to give birth in a birth pool at a local birth centre. When her plans changed and she transferred to hospital, she found hypnobirthing even more beneficial, enabling her to have the vaginal birth she had hoped for. Her daughter Maeve was born after augmentation using synthetic oxytocin.
My waters broke at about 3pm on May the 4th 2022. it was unexpected being 2 weeks before my due date. After several hours in labour at home the midwife said we could make our way to the local water birthing facilities. The birth pool was a lovely experience and I was managing the contractions well, but by 8 am my contractions stopped completely.
We held off as long as we could but finally made the decision to be taken to Torbay hospital to have a synthetic oxytocin drip. This is where Demelza’s course really paid off as this was an event we had not expected. We were able to keep our heads straight and not go into a panic. We had our birth plan ready and we were able to ask the right questions.
While in Torbay Hospital I was consulted about pain relief and a caesarean. I refused both as the baby was doing fine on the monitor and tried to focus as much as I could. Although I was really struggling by the end of it, I listened to some hypnotherapy/guided meditation on my phone and that helped me take my mind off my situation for a while. Kris was a fantastic birth partner and I know we both went into this situation well read and confident because of our preparation. I managed to give birth naturally at 9:28 pm May 5th to our beautiful Maeve Claira Kenyon (6lb 11).
Demelza helped me prepare my mind and we had a really good time learning with her. I would also recommend preparing your body (I used Aniball if anyone was interested) as I came away from childbirth without the need for stitches.
The most important thing Demelza did for me was take away my fear and fill Kris and I with confidence that we could take on the challenge. She also made me realise we are built for this and the whole process has ended up being a very empowering experience.
Thank you Demelza.
